break from social media

How to take a break from social media? – DTW

There are many ways in which we use our mobile phones in our everyday life. Right now mobile phones use that as an inseparable part of our whole day of action. The phone has made our life very simple, ancestors would never have thought about such a simple life.

Before we talk to break from social media first we check statistics about that.

The use of social media has increased a lot in this changing life. 50.64% of the 7.77 billion people in the world who use social media, of eligible audiences aged 13+, there is 63% are active users.

Globally, the average time a person spends on social media a day is 2 hours 24 minutes; if someone signed up at 16 and lived to 70, they would spend 5.7 years of their life on it and this makes us wonder. It has many benefits BUT along with its benefits, many dilemmas have arisen.

People who smile while they are alone used to be called insane until we invented smartphones and social media.

Social media is also causing people to experience more stress than ever before. Known as “technostress” this phenomenon is a grouping of negative emotional reactions as a result of a “social overload” from social media interactions and content.

social media users are actually becoming more and more addicted to social networking sites despite the stress it causes in their daily lives.

Due to social media, many dilemmas have arisen these days, such as irritability, loneliness, stress, mental exhaustion, sometimes being a victim of blackmail, scrolling addiction, etc.

We are so connected with social media that we get up and use it, in our free time, we sit on the phone with the same opening and because of this our thinking ability is being reduced.

Social media makes us seek momentary bliss in order to be fresh and sometimes we become very addicted to social media which changes our ability to focus and work.

Once I heard that Instagram is the thief of joy. So we should not let our joy be stolen, we should make a little social distance from social media.

There are many ways to distance yourself from social media, which we will discuss below about break from social media

  • This trick not only helps you be more mindful about social media, but it helps you think more about your phone habits in general. Every time you pick up your phone, there’s a physical barrier to remind you to be intentional about phone use.
  • Set aside time each day or week when you’ll allow yourself to look through social media.
  • For example, maybe you decide that every Sunday morning or evening you’ll check your favorite accounts and see what your friends have been up to. Or maybe you decide that you can check social media for 15 minutes every day at lunch.
  • Download an app or change your settings to alert you of how much time you are spending on social media each day or week or month.
  • Remind yourself why you are taking a break from social media.
  • The best time to take a break from social media is during family vacations and holidays. It creates a positive impact on the relationship.
  • Facebook and Instagram should be removed from our phones and so when we are at home we can only check our social media on our computers.
  • Turn off all social media notifications on your phone so you don’t feel triggered to check your Instagram or Snapchat whenever you receive a new notification.

social media should improve your life, not become your life
